Kurumaya, nestled in the heart of London's bustling district near St. Paul's, offers a peaceful retreat for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. Diners are greeted with a warm ambiance, creating a welcoming atmosphere that contrasts with the city's lively surroundings. Customers rave about the extensive menu, which features delightful dishes like sushi, sashimi, and beef rice bowls, all reasonably priced for the quality offered. Guests appreciate the attention to detail in the sushi preparation—just a hint of wasabi between the fish and rice elevates the dining experience. The chef's selections, mixing various nigiri and maki, have garnered praise for their freshness and presentation. Reviewers like Izaias Sousa describe Kurumaya as a hidden gem, commending its authentic decor and the friendly service, which enhances the overall experience. While some diners note that the setup can feel snug due to the close table arrangements, the quality of the food and the value it offers in such a prime location more than compensates. Kurumaya captures the essence of Japanese dining, making it a must-visit for both quick lunches and leisurely meals. With its blend of flavor, quality, and ambiance, Kurumaya is truly a standout in London's diverse culinary scene.

The restaurant is in a very busy neighbourhood with St. Paul's just around the corner. Once you pass all the buzzing pubs and restaurants, and you step into this Kurumaya, you are immediately captured in a very quiet and calm even homey environment. The menu is extensive with everything you wish to see in a Japanese restaurant. We tried sushi sashimi, beef rice bowl, mixed tempura plate, miso soup, tofu etc. Everything is delicious but lack of a wow factor. Price is reasonable. Good for a quick work lunch.

Very pleased with the sushi. The food overall is of good quality and we were very impressed that the sushi was done properly (a tiny bit of wasabi between the fish slice and rice is a good indicator). Price is reasonable given the location and the quality (the best Japanese restaurant given the relatively reasonable London price). It was very busy, and the tables were really close to each other. Not the most comfortable set up, but not a major problem. Staff is also very helpful.

I just found this place while looking for a nice restaurant for a date. It's such a precious gem in the city. The food is just amazing, presentation is also very authentic. They have two different spots so you can choose between running sushi upstairs or enjoying downstairs take service. The decoration is just perfect too. We were attended by a very nice waiter called Rafael which was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely go back there soon again.

Simply spectacular Japanese food. Every single thing I tried was the best I've had, and I've been in many, many Japanese restaurants. Top quality!!

I love this place. For starters, back in my banking days I used to lunch at the belt almost every single days. These days, whenever I’m in London, I stop by to remind myself how great Kurumaya is. Competent chefs, tastiest dishes and a good selection of wines. Love the boat presentation! Loyal customer here, will keep going back. AAA !!

Bit of a tight squeeze in this charming Japanese. It was perfect for our pre concert dinner.

One of the proper Japanese restaurants in central London. Great food, simple & cozy ambiance and good service.

The sushi in this place is top quality and reasonably priced. The sharing platters for two, three and four (60, 80, 100 respectively) are very well balanced and are beautifully presented. In the picture: sushi and sashimi sharing player for three, priced 80, features a sufficient amount sushi for hungry eaters. Nowhere near the level of quality or presentation, but still pretty nice, is the chicken katsu curry (if sushi isn’t your thing).
